The Niger State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old man, Victor Ugwu, of Easy Life Street, Kaduna Road, for allegedly impersonating a woman to defraud his friend through a social media dating scam.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was apprehended on October 16, 2025, around 6:00 p.m. by a patrol team from the Maje Division in Suleja Local Government Area during a heated argument with one Peter, who was reportedly his intended victim.

Investigations revealed that Peter had earlier asked Victor to introduce him to a female colleague. Instead, Victor allegedly disguised himself as a woman, took selfies wearing wigs and female outfits, and sent the pictures to Peter via social media while requesting money under the false identity.

A search of Victor’s residence led to the recovery of a wig and female clothing used in carrying out the scam. The suspect confessed that he used fake female profiles on Facebook and TikTok to deceive people and boost his followers for possible monetisation.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, police officers from the same division recovered a stolen white Volkswagen Golf (registration number RSH 442 FD) reported missing from Hayin-Kaduna. The vehicle was found abandoned along the Maje–Dikko–Kaduna Road, and the rightful owner has since identified it.

The police confirmed that both cases are under investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other possible accomplices.
