The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of nine individuals linked to a staged kidnapping and other unlawful activities in Minna.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the case began on September 2, 2025, when police received a distress report about a supposed abduction in the Mandela area of Minna. Shortly after, a call demanding a ₦7 million ransom was placed from an unidentified phone number.

During investigations the next day, police apprehended Suleiman Dauda, who later confessed to playing a role in the scheme. Based on his interrogation, eight more suspects were arrested in the same area.

A search of Suleiman’s possessions uncovered 21 SIM cards and 29 SIM registration certificates. He admitted that the handset and phone line used to demand ransom had been provided by him to the alleged victim.

Further inquiries revealed that the group was involved in a fraudulent Ponzi scheme and that one member had conspired with the supposed victim to extort money from their associates.

SP Abiodun added that while nine suspects are already in custody and charged in court, efforts are ongoing to track down additional accomplices.

“The command remains committed to tackling criminal activities and will continue pursuing those attempting to exploit the public through deceit,” he assured.
