Senator Ned Nwoko, the lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, has asserted that granting freedom to the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, alongside the creation of Anioma State, would significantly stabilise the Southeast region.

Speaking during a televised interview on Sunday Politics, the senator explained that the region has endured years of unrest rooted in feelings of marginalisation and inequity under various administrations.

He noted that the agitations championed by IPOB stem from demands for fairness and the quest for self-determination, which have escalated tensions across the Southeast.

Nwoko emphasised that addressing these grievances through political restructuring and justice would calm the situation. He expressed confidence that establishing Anioma as the sixth state within the geopolitical zone, coupled with Kanu’s release, would pave the way for sustainable peace.

He stated that once these two critical issues are resolved, the region would witness a renewed sense of harmony and inclusion.
