Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, has asserted that the prolonged detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is unfair and remains a major factor behind the persistent unrest in the Southeast region.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, the lawmaker expressed concern over the handling of Kanu’s case, noting that the situation has heightened agitation across the geopolitical zone.
Kanu has been in federal custody since 2021 following his arrest in Kenya and subsequent transfer to Nigeria. He continues to face trial on allegations including treason. The IPOB leader recently dismissed his entire legal team, declaring his intention to personally conduct his defence in court.
According to Senator Nwoko, the ongoing detention has contributed significantly to insecurity and instability in the Southeast, and he believes the matter requires urgent and fair resolution.
