The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has recovered 112kg of cannabis sativa following a road accident along the Zaria–Kano highway.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, near Gadar Tamburawa.

NDLEA patrol officers rushed to the scene after hearing a loud crash involving a Volkswagen Golf and a truck. While rescuing the occupants, officers apprehended a passenger who attempted to flee.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis, carefully concealed. During interrogation, the driver confessed he was delivering the drugs for a consignor and had previously carried out similar deliveries within and outside Kano. He also admitted to using one-way routes to evade NDLEA checkpoints.

The Golf driver, who sustained injuries, is receiving medical care while under investigation. The truck driver also suffered a fracture in the collision.

NDLEA stressed that the case involved two serious offenses: dangerous one-way driving and drug trafficking. The agency urged the public to shun narcotics and report suspicious activities to its offices.
