The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a strong warning to air travellers, urging them never to carry luggage they did not personally pack or whose contents they are not fully aware of.

This vital caution was shared on Sunday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, through his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Babafemi referenced a recent arrest involving a drug trafficking suspect at a Nigerian airport. During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the bag he was carrying did not belong to him and was handed over by another individual.

“Please listen to the suspect in this video,” Babafemi wrote. “He admitted he didn’t pack the bag. Someone gave it to him. As we always warn: never accept to carry any luggage if you don’t know its contents. If you do, you’re complicit and considered an accessory — and #ndlea_nigeria will arrest you.”

The NDLEA’s warning comes amid growing concerns over unsuspecting travellers being used as drug couriers. The agency continues to advise all travellers to stay vigilant and ensure they only travel with bags they personally packed and checked.
