The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine disguised as a fake pregnancy.
Ezewuike, a mother of one and proprietor of Golden Star Creation in Okota, Lagos, was intercepted by operatives at a Jibowu bus terminal, Yaba, on Friday, August 22, 2025, while trying to deliver the drug consignment to clients in Abuja.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, a follow-up raid on her residence in Ago Palace, Okota, uncovered 200 grams of cutting agents used in cocaine production. The suspect confessed that she inherited the drug trade from her late husband, despite running her fashion business for two decades.
In the same week, NDLEA operatives carried out multiple operations across Nigeria, intercepting massive drug consignments and dismantling trafficking networks:
- Lagos: 90 parcels of Loud cannabis (48.6kg) concealed in kitchen sink cartons imported from the U.S. were seized.
- Adamawa: 354,480 pills of tramadol and other opioids were recovered from the home of notorious dealer Idris Garba, while an associate was arrested with two vehicles loaded with drugs.
- Kano: Over 452,000 pills of opioids and 140 litres of codeine syrup were seized in separate raids.
- Kwara: NDLEA officers intercepted 2,289.49kg of skunk in three truck operations at Ajase-Ipo, arresting multiple suspects.
- Taraba, Edo, Delta, and Ondo States: More than 73,000kg of cannabis plantations were destroyed in joint raids with security agencies.
- Abuja: Two dispatch riders were arrested distributing skunk and injection opioids in Jabi.
Reacting to the coordinated operations, NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.) praised the officers across all states for their commitment, urging them to sustain efforts in the agency’s balanced war against drugs.
“These arrests and seizures reinforce our message that there is no hiding place for drug traffickers in Nigeria,” Marwa said.
