The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) has alerted its customers in the South-East region of Nigeria about a widespread system collapse that has led to a total blackout in the area.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, the Head of Corporate Communications for EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, confirmed that the system collapse occurred at 18:48 hours on October 14, 2024. The resulting power outage is currently affecting all states within EEDC’s distribution network, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
Ezeh explained that the collapse has taken down all the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) interface stations within their coverage, leaving them unable to supply electricity to customers across the region.
“We are on standby, awaiting more details on the cause of the collapse and the expected timeline for restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo,” the statement read.
This incident marks yet another in a series of recurring national grid collapses that have left many Nigerians frustrated with the country’s unreliable power supply. The public now awaits further updates on the situation and a resolution to the blackout affecting millions of people across the South-East.
