Natasha Akpoti Challenges Senate President Akpabio, Promises to Drop Harassment Bombshell

By Springs News NG Staff Writer

Abuja, Nigeria — April 4, 2025 Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has reaffirmed her resolve to release evidence supporting her sexual harassment claims against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, the Kogi Central lawmaker declared that she is prepared to substantiate her accusations—“at the right time and in the right space.”

The statement marks a significant escalation in an already controversial political standoff that began after her suspension from the Senate on March 6, for what was termed “gross misconduct” related to a dispute over seating arrangements in the Red Chamber.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan previously alleged that during a December 8, 2023 visit to Senator Akpabio’s residence in Akwa Ibom State, the Senate President made inappropriate advances toward her. She claims he insinuated she needed to “take care” of him in order to gain preferential treatment in Senate dealings.

In response, Senator Akpabio issued a categorical denial on March 5, stating: “At no time did I ever attempt any sexual harassment on the said distinguished Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman for that matter.” He further emphasized his respect for women, crediting his late mother for raising him and his siblings with strong moral values.

Meanwhile, Akpabio’s wife, Ekaette Akpabio, has taken legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan, filing several defamation suits over her public allegations.

Despite growing legal pressure, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains unwavering. During the televised appearance, she also responded to reports that Akpabio might file additional lawsuits over her claims of receiving death threats allegedly linked to him.

“I’m hearing that the Senate President wants to sue me for that. I say he should go ahead. We will meet and cross that bridge,” she said, declining to reveal further details until the appropriate time.

The unfolding drama has drawn national attention and raised serious questions about gender dynamics, abuse of power, and transparency in Nigeria’s legislative process. It also underscores the increasing willingness of female political figures to challenge the highest levels of authority in pursuit of justice and institutional reform.

Springs News NG will continue to monitor this developing story as the nation watches closely for what could become a landmark case in Nigerian political history.
