The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a herbalist identified simply as Alfa over alleged involvement in a ritual killing and attempted murder in Mararaba.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a post on X on Thursday. According to him, the case was reported by a vigilante member, Jamilu Abubakar, who allegedly accompanied two young men to Alfa’s home on August 12, 2025, to seek spiritual assistance purportedly aimed at boosting their wealth through internet fraud.

Makama revealed that Alfa allegedly served the visitors a concoction and pieces of meat to eat. Shortly after consumption, both men developed severe stomach pain and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Mararaba.

“One of them, identified as 21-year-old Ani Sunday, was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital, while the other victim, Tosin Akurunor, is currently receiving treatment,” Makama stated.

The police have since arrested Abubakar for his role in taking the victims to the herbalist, while Alfa remains at large.

According to the police, efforts are ongoing to track down the fugitive herbalist and conclude investigations into the alleged ritual killing.
