A woman was on Wednesday lynched and set ablaze by an irate mob in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, over allegations that she attempted to abduct a seven-year-old boy.
According to eyewitnesses, the child raised an alarm, insisting he did not know the woman, which drew the attention of residents. She was apprehended and questioned but reportedly failed to provide convincing answers on how she came into contact with the boy.
The situation quickly escalated, with the mob assaulting the suspect before setting her on fire. The child was, however, rescued unharmed.
The incident comes amid heightened tension in Agbarho, where residents have in recent weeks staged protests over rising cases of child disappearance and abduction in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Command had not issued an official statement. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, is yet to respond to inquiries on the matter.
