The Nigerian military has apprehended a wanted commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), known as Gentle, alongside eight of his associates during coordinated operations in Imo and Ebonyi states.

This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Magnus Kangye, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday. Kangye said the arrests were part of sustained counterterrorism efforts aimed at dismantling IPOB’s network in the South-East region.

According to him, Gentle had long been on the military’s wanted list for his alleged involvement in terror-related activities and attacks on security personnel.

“Between October 8 and 13, troops of Operation UDO KA carried out several offensive missions that led to the capture of the notorious IPOB/ESN commander ‘Gentle’ and eight others in Imo and Ebonyi States,” Kangye revealed.

The military also seized arms, ammunition, and vehicles during the operations. Additionally, a female collaborator linked to IPOB’s armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), was arrested in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

Major General Kangye further highlighted that the armed forces have continued to record major successes across various regions in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats.
