Market Capitalisation Tops ₦100trn as Investors Position for Earnings Releases

Nigeria’s equities market has crossed the ₦100 trillion mark in total valuation, reflecting renewed investor confidence ahead of the forthcoming corporate earnings season.

The milestone was driven by sustained buying interest in large-cap stocks, particularly in the banking, telecommunications, energy and consumer goods sectors, as investors anticipate improved full-year and quarterly results.

Market analysts say expectations of stronger company earnings, combined with attractive dividend prospects, have encouraged both local and foreign investors to increase exposure to equities despite broader macroeconomic uncertainties.

The rally also mirrors improved sentiment following policy adjustments and stabilising indicators in the financial system, which have supported risk appetite across the market.

Traders note that blue-chip stocks have led recent gains, with institutional investors positioning early to benefit from earnings announcements and potential price re-ratings.

However, analysts caution that market performance in the weeks ahead will largely depend on the quality of earnings released and guidance provided by listed companies.

With earnings season approaching, market participants are expected to remain selective, focusing on fundamentally strong stocks with solid cash flows and growth prospects.
