Mariya Dangote, the eldest daughter of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, is steadily emerging as a pivotal figure in the succession strategy of the Dangote business empire, holding key leadership positions across the conglomerate.
Mariya joined the Dangote Group in 2016 after earning an MBA from Coventry University in the United Kingdom. She began her career at Dangote Industries Limited as a business strategy and risk specialist, where she developed strong expertise in strategic planning, corporate governance, and digital transformation.
Her role expanded significantly in 2022 when she was appointed Executive Director of Operations at Dangote Sugar Refinery. In that position, she has overseen operational efficiency, backward integration projects, and technology-led performance upgrades, aligning with the group’s drive toward sugar self-sufficiency and reduced import reliance.
Mariya’s influence within the conglomerate grew further in 2025 with her appointment to the board of Dangote Cement, reinforcing long-term leadership continuity at Africa’s largest listed industrial firm. She also sits on the board of Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria, reflecting her cross-industry involvement in manufacturing and industrial development.
