Marcus Rashford’s turbulent relationship with Manchester United managers appears to be a recurring theme, as the English forward continues to make headlines for his absence from Ruben Amorim’s plans this season.
United’s Boxing Day woes were compounded by a 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, dropping the team to a dismal 14th place in the Premier League. Rashford, who has not featured in the club’s last four matchday squads, remains sidelined despite the team losing three of those matches.
Ruben Amorim, known for his disciplined approach, has seemingly frozen Rashford out, leading to speculation about their fractured relationship. Speaking on the matter, journalist Andy Mitten told talkSPORT that this is not the first time Rashford has clashed with a manager at Old Trafford.
“I think the manager [Amorim] has had a big say here,” Mitten said. “He’s a smiling assassin, a disciplinarian doing things his way. Every previous manager has had issues with Marcus Rashford. I’ve spoken to them—Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag—they’ve all told me in confidence over the years.”
This troubling pattern suggests deeper issues, as Rashford’s form has also taken a significant hit. The 27-year-old has scored just 11 Premier League goals across the last two seasons (2023-24 and 2024-25), a stark contrast to his 17-goal tally in 2022-23. His overall record of 138 goals for United, which places him 15th on the club’s all-time scorers list, now seems overshadowed by his inconsistency and alleged disruptive behavior.
United’s offensive struggles this season further complicate the situation. The team has managed only 21 league goals—fewer than 15 other top-flight clubs. Recent matches have exposed a lack of creativity and firepower, with the Red Devils failing to score in two consecutive games.
Despite Rashford’s historical contributions, Amorim appears intent on charting a new course. With the January transfer window looming, parting ways with the academy graduate could offer the Portuguese manager an opportunity to rebuild.
As the drama unfolds, United fans are left questioning whether Rashford’s absence marks the beginning of a necessary transition
