Marcus Rashford to Stay at Barcelona Until 2026 Despite Struggles – No January Man United Return

Rashford, 27, joined the Catalan giants on loan from United in July 2025 and has made three La Liga appearances so far this season, starting only once. His slow start at Camp Nou has fueled rumours that Barcelona were already considering ending the deal early.
However, respected Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has strongly refuted those claims, describing the reports as “absolutely rubbish.”
“Barça told his representatives that they have full confidence in Rashford’s potential and believe he will bounce back to become a top player again,” Balague wrote on his X account.
Barcelona’s Long-Term Rashford Plans
Rashford’s loan agreement includes a £30 million option to buy next summer, but Barcelona would have to pay a £4.3m penalty fee if they decide against a permanent deal. This clause mirrors Manchester United’s arrangement with Chelsea during Jadon Sancho’s loan spell.
Despite the uncertainty, sources close to Rashford told The Sun that there is “no chance” of him returning to Old Trafford in January.
Struggles to Break Into Barcelona’s Attack
The England international has found it difficult to establish himself under manager Hansi Flick, with Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and Ferran Torres all ahead of him in the attacking pecking order. His only start came against Levante, where he was substituted at half-time after failing to make an impact.
While Rashford remains determined to succeed in Spain, his long-term future is still uncertain. If Barcelona decline the permanent option, United—where he remains under contract until June 2028—would face another tough decision on whether to reintegrate him or seek a new buyer.
Rashford’s United Legacy and Current Challenge
Rashford, who has scored 138 goals and provided 78 assists in 426 appearances for Manchester United, fell out of favour early in Ruben Amorim’s tenure as head coach, leading to his loan exit.
For now, Barcelona remain committed to giving Rashford time to adapt and rediscover his form, making a January return to Manchester United highly unlikely.
