“Manchester United Transfer Update: Sancho Exit Stalls as Amorim Prioritises Midfielder and Goalkeeper

AS Roma have reportedly made progress in their bid to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, but the forward’s high wage demands remain a stumbling block.
According to TEAMtalk, Roma and United have agreed a £20m transfer fee for the 24-year-old, yet the Serie A side are struggling to meet his weekly salary of around £250,000. With only one year left on his contract, Sancho’s exit from Old Trafford looks increasingly likely, but negotiations remain delicate.
United’s transfer business under new boss Ruben Amorim could hinge on player sales. Despite their spirited display in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, the Portuguese coach is said to be pushing for at least two more signings before the window closes — a goalkeeper and a midfielder.
Amorim was encouraged by the performances of new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but key weaknesses remain. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir struggled against Arsenal, failing to deal with a Declan Rice corner that led to the only goal. With Andre Onana still battling fitness concerns, the need for a reliable shot-stopper is pressing.
There are also long-term concerns in midfield. Bruno Fernandes turns 31 in September, while Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte endured poor form throughout the 2024/25 campaign. Strengthening the center of the pitch is seen as vital if United are to compete this season.
However, sales have been slow. United are yet to offload a single player this summer, with Antony and Rasmus Højlund also still on the books. Unless the Sancho deal or other exits materialize, Amorim may have no choice but to continue with his current squad.
