Manchester United lifted the 2025 Premier League Summer Series trophy on Sunday after a 2-2 draw with Everton, with captain Bruno Fernandes starring and new signing Bryan Mbeumo making his first start under manager Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils secured the title with seven points from three games in the U.S.-based pre-season tournament, following earlier victories over West Ham (2-1) and Bournemouth (4-1).
Fernandes was instrumental in the final match in Atlanta, scoring from the penalty spot in the 19th minute after Amad Diallo was fouled by Everton defender James Tarkowski. He later provided the assist for Mason Mount, who curled in United’s second goal in the 69th minute.
Everton equalized twice — first through Iliman Ndiaye in the 40th minute, tapping in from Idrissa Gana Gueye’s cross, and later via an own goal in the 75th minute when Ayden Heaven deflected the ball into his own net.
Speaking after the match, Fernandes emphasized Manchester United’s commitment to improving after last season’s disappointing 15th-place finish, the club’s worst since 1973-74.
“The culture of this club was winning, and we need to bring that back,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “Every detail matters — on and off the pitch — and we must step up to repay the fans for their support.”
The game also marked the debut of former Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo in Amorim’s starting XI, as the Portuguese manager continues reshaping the squad.
Earlier in the day, West Ham United defeated Bournemouth 2-0, thanks to goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen. Both goals were set up by Senegalese left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf, who joined the Hammers on July 15. Bowen praised the newcomer’s impact, calling him “humble and brilliant for the group.”
Bournemouth created early chances but were denied by the woodwork in a frustrating opening 15 minutes. West Ham’s victory secured two wins in their three Summer Series matches.
Manchester United’s Summer Series triumph offers a morale boost ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season, as Amorim seeks to rebuild the Red Devils into a competitive force domestically and in Europe.
