Man United Hit by Injury Blow as Diogo Dalot Withdraws from Portugal Squad with Muscle Problem

Manchester United have been handed a fresh injury concern after right-back Diogo Dalot withdrew from Portugal’s squad during the first international break of the 2025/26 season.

The 26-year-old defender, who played the full 90 minutes in United’s dramatic 3-2 Premier League win over Burnley last weekend, was released by the Portuguese Football Federation’s Health and Performance Division following complaints of muscle discomfort.

Dalot has featured in two of United’s three league matches so far this season, as well as the shock EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town. Since joining from Porto in 2018, he has made 214 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring nine goals.

At present, it remains unclear how long Dalot will be sidelined, or whether he will miss any of United’s crucial upcoming fixtures. Portugal, meanwhile, are preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Armenia and Hungary without the full-back.

Key Fixtures Ahead for United
Dalot’s setback comes at a difficult time for Manchester United and manager Ruben Amorim, as the club faces a defining run of matches following the international break.

  • September 14: Manchester derby against City at the Etihad Stadium.
  • September 20: Home clash with Club World Cup champions Chelsea at Old Trafford.

With such high-profile fixtures on the horizon, Amorim will be desperate to have Dalot fit and available to bolster his defensive options.
