Manchester United have reportedly earmarked Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface as part of a four-man shortlist as they seek to bolster their attack.
Under new manager Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils are struggling offensively, evident in their recent 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Ipswich Town. With just 13 goals in 12 Premier League matches, United’s scoring woes place them among the league’s least productive teams, only ahead of Southampton, Crystal Palace, and Everton.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, two key forwards, have underperformed, managing just one league goal each this season. Zirkzee’s disappointing spell has already sparked speculation about a potential January move to Juventus.
Nigerian Duo in the Spotlight
Amid these struggles, United have identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface and Galatasaray’s on-loan striker Victor Osimhen as top transfer targets.
Boniface has been in scintillating form since joining Leverkusen in 2023, contributing 29 goals and 11 assists in 49 matches. His combination of power and technical ability has made him a standout performer in the Bundesliga.
Osimhen, on the other hand, has reignited his career at Galatasaray following a challenging summer at Napoli. With eight goals and four assists in 10 appearances, the 25-year-old has proven his quality and could be available for €75m (£62.6m) via a break clause in his loan deal.
Other Striker Options
In addition to the Nigerian pair, Manchester United are also monitoring Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.
Kolo Muani, who has fallen out of favour at PSG, could be a more affordable option, available on loan or a permanent deal. However, sources suggest he is a secondary target.
Marmoush, an Egyptian international, is also attracting interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. With a contract running until 2027, Frankfurt would demand between €50m (£41.7m) and €60m (£50.1m) for the versatile forward.
January Reinforcements Essential
With pressure mounting on Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s transfer decisions in January could prove pivotal. The addition of a prolific striker may be the key to turning their season around and reigniting their push for a top-four finish.
For now, the spotlight remains on Boniface and Osimhen as potential saviors for United’s faltering attack.
