Nigerian rapper and music executive M.I Abaga has shared why he prefers the idea of raising his future children in Nigeria, emphasizing the country’s deep-rooted sense of family and community.
In a recent interview, the award-winning hip-hop artist noted that Nigeria provides a more supportive environment for parents compared to many Western countries.
According to M.I, the communal lifestyle in Nigeria makes parenting easier, as extended family members and friends often step in to help.
“There are a lot of things appealing about home, especially because we’re already ingrained in that system,” he said.
“There’s a lot of support as well. I feel it’s very difficult for parents abroad. But if you have family here, you have enough people to help at home — though it’s still not easy.”
The rapper contrasted this with life overseas, particularly in the United States, where he said many people work long hours, leaving little room for family support.
While acknowledging that raising children abroad has its advantages, M.I Abaga maintained that Nigeria offers a stronger foundation for children to learn their roots, values, and culture before gaining global exposure.
Although he mentioned that he isn’t actively planning for a family yet, M.I reaffirmed his belief that Nigeria’s tight-knit community spirit remains one of its biggest strengths for child upbringing.
