Liverpool’s Revival Explained: How Slot Steadying the Ship Has Silenced Sack Fears and Reignited Trophy Hopes

After months of turbulence, Liverpool are finally showing signs of life again — and the noise around Arne Slot’s future is fading fast.
The reigning Premier League champions endured a brutal 2025–26 campaign, crashing out of the title race early and even slipping outside the top four during the winter. A nightmare spell in November — highlighted by a humiliating 4–1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven — left Slot under serious pressure as Liverpool lost nine of 12 matches.
In response, the Dutchman adjusted his approach, prioritising control and defensive balance. While that shift initially produced a long unbeaten run, it also came with frustrating draws that stalled momentum. However, since late January, the Reds have turned a corner, winning four of their last five games across all competitions and pushing on in both the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup.
A key factor behind the resurgence has been renewed defensive discipline. After conceding late goals at an alarming rate earlier in the season, Liverpool have now kept three clean sheets in their last five matches, including a gritty 1–0 away win over Sunderland — the first league defeat the Black Cats suffered at home this season.
Equally important is the gradual return to form of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian endured his quietest season since arriving at Anfield, but since returning from AFCON he has directly contributed to six goals in six games. Only Bruno Fernandes has created more assists in the Premier League over the same period.
With defensive stability improving and Salah rediscovering his rhythm, Liverpool are once again beginning to look like a side capable of finishing the season strongly. What once felt like a campaign spiralling out of control now carries renewed belief — and Slot, for now, appears to be winning his battle to turn doubt into trust.
