Liverpool Transfer News: Adam Wharton Prefers Anfield Move Over Real Madrid as £60m Price Tag Emerges

Liverpool have been handed a major transfer boost after reports claimed that Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton prefers a move to Anfield despite strong interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

According to DaveOCKOP.com, the 20-year-old could be available for around £60 million, with a potential January transfer not ruled out. The news comes as Jurgen Klopp’s successor, Arne Slot, looks to strengthen Liverpool’s midfield following a summer window that focused primarily on defence and attack.

Wharton’s impressive passing range and composure under pressure have caught the eye of Europe’s elite, but the midfielder is believed to favour a switch to Merseyside, where he could ease the workload on Ryan Gravenberch.

Liverpool narrowly missed out on signing Martin Zubimendi in 2024, leaving Gravenberch to operate as a deep-lying playmaker. While the Dutchman impressed during the title-winning campaign, fatigue impacted his consistency late in the season. Slot is now eager to add depth and balance to the squad, with Wharton seen as an ideal fit.

The addition of the Palace star would not sideline Gravenberch, but instead allow him to operate in his natural number eight role alongside Wharton. This could help Liverpool maintain ball progression and creativity, especially after losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in the summer.

Beyond Wharton, Liverpool continue to monitor other Palace talents, with Marc Guehi expected to be available on a free transfer next summer. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise has been identified as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, should the Egyptian leave in the coming seasons.

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday against Burnley, looking to extend their perfect start and strengthen their push to retain the title.
