Liverpool Make Final Push to Secure Ibrahima Konate Contract Amid Real Madrid and PSG Interest

Liverpool are reportedly preparing one last attempt to tie Ibrahima Konate to a new long-term contract, as the France international enters the final year of his deal at Anfield.
The reigning Premier League champions are on the verge of sealing a move for Parma defender Giovanni Leoni, but face the real possibility of losing one of their key centre-backs in the next 12 months.
According to Empire of the Kop, the Reds’ hierarchy have not given up hope of convincing Konate to stay beyond the end of the 2025–26 season. Fresh talks with the 26-year-old’s representatives are expected soon, with Liverpool ready to offer a significant pay rise to keep him at the club.
Avoiding Another Alexander-Arnold Scenario
Liverpool are determined to prevent a repeat of the Trent Alexander-Arnold saga, which saw the England star join Real Madrid earlier this summer for a cut-price £10m after running down his deal.
If no agreement is reached, Konate will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from January 2026. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are both reportedly interested, while Chelsea have also been linked — though Liverpool are reluctant to sell to a direct Premier League rival.
Since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konate has become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s defensive unit, known for his aerial dominance, recovery pace, and composure on the ball. Losing him for free would represent a major blow to the Reds’ long-term plans.
