Premier League champions Liverpool FC have officially signed French striker Hugo Ekitike from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in a blockbuster deal worth £79 million (€91.5 million), as the club continues to strengthen its attacking options for the new season.
The Reds will pay an initial £69 million (€80 million) for the 23-year-old forward, with an additional £10 million (€12.5 million) in performance-based add-ons. The deal marks Liverpool’s latest high-profile signing of the summer, pushing their total transfer spending for the window close to £300 million.
Similar to the recently finalized Florian Wirtz deal, most of the add-ons in Ekitike’s contract are linked to Liverpool’s trophy haul and the player’s overall contribution during his time at Anfield.
Liverpool reportedly made their move for Ekitike last week, shortly after being informed that Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak was not available for transfer. Prior to Liverpool’s formal bid, Newcastle had attempted to sign Ekitike themselves, submitting a club-record £70 million offer, which was rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sources told Sky Sports News that Liverpool were strategic in their approach, allowing Newcastle to initiate the transfer talks. With Frankfurt seemingly aiming to spark a bidding war, the Merseyside club waited patiently before entering negotiations, confident of their ability to seal the deal.
Ekitike enjoyed a breakout season with Frankfurt, showcasing pace, creativity, and a clinical touch in front of goal — traits that attracted attention from top European clubs. His arrival at Anfield is expected to inject fresh firepower into Liverpool’s frontline as the club looks to defend its Premier League crown and mount another charge for UEFA Champions League glory.
The French striker is now set to join up with Liverpool’s pre-season squad and could make his debut in the club’s upcoming international tour fixtures.
