Liverpool are edging closer to completing the signing of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the England international.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with the Premier League champions hoping to secure a deal worth around £35 million — significantly lower than Palace’s initial £48m valuation. Guehi, 25, has just one year left on his current contract, prompting Palace chairman Steve Parish to admit that a summer sale was possible.
Liverpool’s Defensive Reinforcements Continue
The Reds have already spent over £250m on seven new signings in the current transfer window. While there has been speculation about a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, manager Arne Slot has prioritised strengthening his defensive options following the sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.
Guehi has been a standout performer since joining Palace from Chelsea and is seen as an ideal addition alongside Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez in the heart of defence.
Competition from Manchester United
Reports suggest Manchester United also made an approach for Guehi, but the defender appears set on a move to Anfield.
In addition, Liverpool have been linked with Giovanni Leoni as another central defensive option, though Romano confirms that Leoni’s potential transfer is independent of the Guehi deal.
If completed, the move would represent another shrewd piece of business by Liverpool as they look to defend their Premier League title and strengthen ahead of the new season.
