Lagos State University (LASU) has indefinitely suspended all academic and non-academic activities, including the 2024/2025 second semester examinations, following the ongoing industrial action by staff unions.

The second semester exams, which were scheduled to begin on Monday, August 4, 2025, will no longer hold until further notice.

LASU Senate Announces Indefinite Suspension

In a statement released by Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, the LASU Senate explained that the decision was taken during a virtual meeting on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

The Senate revealed that the strike, declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of staff unions—including ASUU-LASU, NASU-LASU, SSANU-LASU, and NAAT-LASU—is directed at the Lagos State Government, not the university’s management.

“The 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations are hereby suspended, and all other activities in the university are on hold until further notice,” the statement read.

Students Ordered to Vacate Hostels

The university also ordered all students residing in hostels to vacate the premises by 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, while urging them to remain calm and law-abiding throughout the strike period.

The statement emphasized that the university management has been mediating between the striking unions and the Lagos State Government to find a peaceful resolution. A high-level meeting chaired by Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, with union and ministry representatives, was held on Friday, August 1, 2025, as part of ongoing negotiations.

The LASU Senate stated that consultations will continue, with parties expected to reconvene on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in a bid to end the industrial action.
