The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has appealed to families and members of the public to formally report and register the names of persons who may be missing following the fire outbreak at the Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) House on Martins Street, Lagos Island.
The call was made on Thursday by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who said the move is necessary amid concerns that some individuals may still be trapped beneath the collapsed section of the building.
According to him, search and rescue operations are still in progress, with trained emergency personnel deployed to the site and supported by specialised equipment.
“Our rescue teams are working round the clock to carefully assess all affected areas and ensure that everyone is accounted for,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He advised anyone who has been unable to contact relatives, colleagues, or acquaintances believed to have been in or around the building at the time of the incident to report to the LASEMA Complaints Unit at the scene to lodge their concerns.
He explained that details gathered from the public would be verified and compiled into an official list of missing persons to support rescue, identification, and response efforts.
The Permanent Secretary added that LASEMA is working closely with other emergency, health, and security agencies to guarantee a coordinated and comprehensive operation, while keeping the public informed of developments.
He also called on residents to cooperate fully with emergency officials as rescue activities continue.
