Lagos to Reinstate Strict BRT Lane Enforcement on Eko Bridge and Odo Iya Alaro from October 6

The Lagos State Government has announced the full resumption of strict enforcement of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes on Eko Bridge and Odo Iya Alaro Link Bridge starting Monday, October 6, 2025.
The enforcement exercise, which was suspended on July 2, had been temporarily halted to ease traffic congestion during rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge.
The Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, a key link between Ogudu and Ifako, underwent structural repairs on its expansion joints, resulting in partial closures and heavy traffic delays into Lagos Mainland.
In a statement on Wednesday, Tobi Idowu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education and Enforcement, emphasized that the enforcement is part of the state’s broader traffic management strategy.
“Motorists are strongly advised to comply with this directive, as relevant agencies will strictly monitor and enforce adherence to the designated BRT corridors,” Idowu cautioned.
Authorities earlier described the suspension as a temporary relief measure aimed at reducing commuter stress during the repair works.
Confirming the development on X (formerly Twitter), Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, stated:
“Now that the Ogudu Bridge repairs have been fully completed and reopened, enforcement of BRT lanes on both Eko Bridge and Odo Iya Alaro will resume on Monday, October 6, 2025.”
The Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, which reopened on Tuesday, was completed in 78 days—well ahead of the original 101-day project timeline.
