The Lagos State government has taken decisive action against noise pollution by shutting down a branch of Pastor E. A. Adeboye’s Redeemed Christian Church of God, along with a Celestial Church, nightclubs, and event centers across multiple areas of the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced on Wednesday that the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) had sealed these establishments on Tuesday. This enforcement took place in the Ogudu, Gbagada, Iyana Ejigbo, Isolo, Ajao Estate, Oshodi, Ilasamaja, and Okota areas of Lagos.
The establishments affected by this action include: Redeemed Christian Church of God, Celestial Church of God, OMA Nightclub and Lounge, Honourable Lounge & Lodging, Bridge Spot Bar, Okiki Event Center and Hall, Emota Paradise Hotel (Phase 2), CF Hotel & Suites, House 27 Hotel & Suites, Echo Spring Hotel, and Smile T Continental Hotel.
In a post on X, Wahab explained the government’s rationale, stating, “In a bid to address noise pollution and other environmental violations, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) took action yesterday, closing down several establishments across different parts of the state.”
Wahab added that the enforcement drive is part of LASEPA’s continuous efforts to uphold environmental standards and safeguard public health. The agency aims to reduce the noise impact of these businesses on residents and ensure compliance with state regulations, emphasizing that environmental health remains a top priority for Lagos State.
The move underscores Lagos’ commitment to tackling environmental challenges amid the city’s rapid growth and urbanization, with LASEPA reiterating its focus on creating a livable environment for all residents.
