A 14-year-old boy kidnapped in Lagos State has been rescued unhurt by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, who also arrested one of the suspects, 25-year-old Musa Shaibu, during a sting operation.
Shaibu, a member of a five-man kidnapping gang, was apprehended in the Ajegunle area after allegedly abducting the teenage son of a Bureau De Change operator, identified as Hassan, from their residence in Olodi-Apapa.
According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the gang demanded a ransom of N20 million for the boy’s release.
During interrogation, Shaibu confessed that the gang’s plan was to extort the boy’s wealthy father without harming the victim. “Our intention was not to harm the boy, but to collect the sum of N20 million from his rich father,” he admitted. “I would have travelled overseas with my own share of the money.”
The operation began after the victim’s father reported the incident to the police on May 1, 2025. Acting swiftly, detectives tracked the suspects to a filling station near Wema Bridge in Apapa, where Shaibu was arrested while attempting to collect the ransom.
Further investigation led officers to a hotel in Ajegunle, where the victim was found and safely rescued. The hotel manager was also arrested for questioning regarding the gang’s activities.
The rescued boy has since been reunited with his family. Meanwhile, police investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the kidnapping syndicate.
