Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six suspected kidnappers linked to two separate abduction cases, recovering a Toyota RAV4 SUV, a bulletproof vest, and other incriminating items.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, told journalists on Monday that the arrests followed swift operations by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
The first case was reported on July 13 by one Ayogu Kelvin of Yaba, who alleged that his 16-year-old son had been abducted by unknown persons. The suspects allegedly demanded and received N2 million, a headset, a school bag, and an iPhone 12 before the victim was released. Acting on intelligence, detectives tracked and apprehended the suspects, aged between 22 and 26.
In another incident, police operatives arrested a prime suspect on August 1 in Ogijo, Ogun State, over the July 18 kidnapping of a victim in Ayetoro, Ijanikin. The gang reportedly collected N5 million from the victim during the operation.
Items recovered from the suspects include the Toyota RAV4 with registration number KWL 883 DL, a bulletproof vest, two vehicle number plates, three POS machines, and two security personnel identity cards. Police also arrested a woman believed to own the bank account used to receive the ransom.
CP Jimoh confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down other members of the gang.
