Lagos Integrates 130,000 NINs into Social Register for FG’s N75,000 Cash Transfer to Vulnerable Households

The Lagos State Government has begun integrating National Identification Numbers (NINs) into the Lagos State Single Social Register (LASSR) to enable the disbursement of the Federal Government’s N75,000 cash transfer to vulnerable households.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ope George, disclosed this during a press briefing at the state secretariat in Alausa. He revealed that the NINs of 130,000 heads of households have already been successfully linked out of the 688,759 recorded in the state’s social register.

According to George, the exercise is part of the Federal Government’s directive, issued through the Presidential Panel, mandating the update of the National Social Register with each beneficiary’s NIN and geo-location data to ensure transparency and accountability.

He explained that the initiative is a critical step toward addressing the growing economic hardship triggered by the collapse of the foreign exchange window, the removal of fuel subsidy, and the Federal Government’s proposed N75,000 relief payment under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“The Federal Government has directed that all households on the National Social Register must be updated, especially with the National Identification Number and geo-locations,” George stated.

He further explained that the integration process began about a month ago and is currently ongoing across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The Social Protection Coordinating Department (SPCD) under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget is overseeing the exercise.

George said SPCD officials have been visiting communities to collect both NIN and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) details. The team is also engaging local leaders to ensure inclusivity and effectiveness in reaching eligible beneficiaries.

The state government emphasized that linking NINs to the social register will ensure that only verified, deserving households benefit from the Federal Government’s N75,000 cash transfer, which forms part of its broader social intervention strategy for vulnerable Nigerians.
