Emergency teams recovered two bodies from the rubble, while six individuals sustained injuries of varying severity. The number of rescued victims has risen to 14, according to Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
“Following distress calls received at 2:25 PM via the 767/112 Emergency Toll-Free Lines, LASEMA activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans. Response teams from our Lekki and Cappa bases were deployed immediately,” Oke-Osanyintolu said in a statement.
He added that the exact cause of the collapse remains unknown, but investigations are ongoing.
“So far, two adult males have been pulled from the rubble. Six injured victims received first aid from the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit before being transported to Marina General Hospital for further treatment,” he said.
Emergency responders launched a search and rescue operation at the site in the Ikota area of Ajah, Lagos State.
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that officers and rescue teams had been mobilized to the scene.
“Fourteen people have been rescued and taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment. Security operatives remain on-site to maintain order as rescue operations continue,” he said.
