Lagos APC Slams Tambuwal Over “Nigeria in Peril” Comment, Calls It Alarmist

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal for describing Nigeria as being “in peril and needing urgent salvation,” calling his remarks “alarmist” and politically theatrical.
The party argued that Tambuwal’s moral outrage is misplaced, noting that during his time in positions of responsibility, he failed to deliver the very “salvation” he now publicly advocates.
Speaking on behalf of the party, Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo urged Tambuwal and his allies to move beyond political grandstanding. He said genuine concern for Nigeria should start with humility, restitution, and support for reforms that advance the country, adding that anything less is “loud, convenient, and hollow.”
Oladejo stated, “The Lagos APC has taken note of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s alarmist remarks. When entrusted with responsibility, he failed to implement the solutions he now theatrically advertises.”
He added that true statesmanship demands introspection and accountability, not public posturing. “Nigerians remember the years when Tambuwal held strategic government positions and the leadership dividends expected at those times. Instead of reflecting honestly or apologizing for missed opportunities, he has chosen to sermonize from a pedestal of selective amnesia,” Oladejo said.
The APC spokesman also referenced Tambuwal’s recent 60th birthday, suggesting it was an opportunity for reflection and restitution, which was instead “sidestepped.” He emphasized that Nigeria’s current challenges did not arise overnight and that many who now speak of national peril were themselves involved in years of policy inertia, economic stagnation, and poor leadership.
“Proclaiming peril without acknowledging one’s own role in the nation’s difficulties is not courage; it is convenience. It insults the intelligence of Nigerians,” Oladejo concluded.
