The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly countered claims by former Sokoto State governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, that a national consensus is being built to stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from seeking a second term in 2027.
Tambuwal, who represents Sokoto South Senatorial District, had said during a media appearance that efforts to unseat Tinubu were not a northern agenda but a collective push involving stakeholders across the country.
In a swift reaction on Sunday, Seye Oladejo, spokesperson of the Lagos APC, described the senator’s statement as false, misleading, and politically motivated. According to him, the prevailing sentiment across Nigeria is not about removing Tinubu but about sustaining governance reforms and ensuring stability.
“What is emerging across the nation is not a consensus to stop Tinubu, but a consensus to support leadership that delivers. By 2027, Nigerians will willingly renew their mandate for a president who has shown capacity, vision, and determination,” Oladejo said.
He further stressed that Tinubu was democratically elected in 2023 by Nigerians from all regions, dismissing suggestions of imposition.
“President Tinubu was not forced on Nigerians; he was chosen through a transparent electoral process that reflected the will of diverse communities across the country. Unlike opposition propaganda, this administration is focused on results,” he added.
Oladejo also challenged Tambuwal to focus on defending his own political record, hinting at ongoing investigations by anti-graft agencies linked to the senator’s tenure.
The Lagos APC spokesperson mocked opposition moves to form alliances ahead of the next election, branding them as fragile and driven by selfish ambitions.
“They are desperate to build alliances that will collapse under the weight of greed and ego. Nigerians are watching closely, and they will not be deceived,” he noted.
Highlighting Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Oladejo listed achievements in infrastructure, job creation, power, and economic reforms as evidence that the government is delivering tangible progress.
“While the opposition engages in media theatrics, we are fixing roads, creating employment, addressing energy challenges, and laying solid foundations for a prosperous Nigeria,” he concluded.
