The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, where armed bandits killed at least 12 people, including local vigilantes and the Baale of Ogbayo.
Reacting in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Tuesday, the former Anambra State governor described the incident as a “mindless act of violence” that has once again plunged the nation into grief.
Obi stressed the urgent need for the federal government to declare a national security emergency, warning that Nigerians should not be forced to live in fear in their own homes.
“We cannot continue to normalise tragedy,” Obi lamented. “My heart goes out to the governor and people of Kwara State, as well as the grieving families. I reassure you that you are not alone.”
He prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in peace and for their families to find strength and comfort during this period of sorrow.
The attack, carried out on Sunday morning, left the Oke-Ode community shaken, with residents calling for greater protection against rising cases of banditry and violent crime across the country
