Kenya Abolishes Visa Requirement for Nigerians and All African Nationals

Kenya has officially removed visa requirements for Nigerian citizens, all African nationals, and the majority of Caribbean countries, marking a major shift in the country’s immigration policy.

According to a Kenya Times report published on Sunday, travellers from these regions will no longer need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) to enter Kenya. This new policy is part of President William Ruto’s broader vision to enhance intra-African travel and boost investment by easing border restrictions.

However, the visa-free access does not extend to nationals of Libya and Somalia, who are still classified as high-security risk countries by Kenyan authorities.

This progressive move aligns with Kenya’s commitment to promoting regional integration and economic development. In January 2025, the Kenyan government announced plans to introduce new travel facilitation measures, aimed at improving the experience for tourists, investors, and business travellers across the continent.

The announcement also comes as Nigeria recently undertook a review of its Visa-on-Arrival policy, signaling a potential shift towards more reciprocal travel arrangements within Africa.
