Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured the families of the abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State—and those of the late Brigadier-General Musa Uba and the school’s late vice principal—that the Federal Government will deploy every available resource to secure the children’s release and bring their attackers to justice.
Leading a Federal Government delegation to commiserate with the people and government of Kebbi, Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s deep concern over the tragic events. He vowed that the administration would apply the full weight of the state to rescue the schoolchildren and prosecute those responsible for the killings and abductions.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi, the Vice President described the kidnapping of the girls from their boarding school in Manga as an attack on the nation’s shared humanity.
“Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain. When one child is stolen, every home in this country mourns,” he said on behalf of the President. “This is not a time for politics, but a moment for unity and firm resolve. Our daughters must return safely.”
Shettima assured affected families that their cries would not be ignored, stressing that the government will not relent until the girls are reunited with their loved ones. “We will use every instrument of the state to bring these girls home and ensure the perpetrators face the full weight of justice,” he emphasized.
The Vice President also paid tribute to Brigadier-General Musa Uba, describing his sacrifice as one that touched the soul of the nation. He promised that the government would honour his memory and support his family.
Shettima commended Governor Nasir Idris, traditional leaders, community groups, vigilante networks, civil society organizations, and security agencies for their collective efforts in responding to the crisis. He praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, DSS, NSCDC, and other security units for their courage and sacrifice, noting that their dedication remains the backbone of national security.
In his remarks, Governor Idris thanked President Tinubu for his consistent support and communication since the incident, expressing optimism that the schoolgirls would soon be rescued. He reaffirmed the state’s loyalty to the Tinubu administration and its readiness to collaborate closely with the Federal Government.
Other dignitaries present included APC National Chairman Nantawe Yitwada, Deputy Governor Umar Tafida, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Women Affairs Iman Suleiman Ibrahim, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Bernard Doro, and Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs Tanko Yusuf.
