Kauru Communities Decry Renewed Violence in Southern Kaduna, Demand Stronger Security Response

Communities in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have condemned the recent deadly attack on Damakasuwa community in Chawai Chiefdom, which left seven people dead and one injured last Friday.
In a statement jointly signed by the Forum Chairman, Dr. Billy Ishaya Laah, and the Spokesman, Daniel Danau, the Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations (CDAs) described the incident as another painful reminder of the persistent insecurity troubling Southern Kaduna.
“The attack, which claimed seven lives and left one person injured, is a heartbreaking reminder of the violence that continues to devastate our communities,” the statement read.
The forum expressed deep concern that such a tragedy occurred despite the presence of security personnel, including military and Mobile Police (MOPOL) operatives, in the area. It questioned the effectiveness of current security operations and called for a more decisive and coordinated response to safeguard lives and property.
They urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and support efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, while offering prayers for the victims and their families.
“The people of Kauru are known for peace and unity. It is painful to see our communities torn apart by senseless killings,” the group added.
The CDAs further appealed to the Kaduna State Government and federal authorities to intensify patrols and surveillance in vulnerable areas and to tackle the root causes of the violence — including poverty, joblessness, and lack of basic infrastructure — that continue to fuel unrest in the region.
