A well-known bandit leader, Mustapha Babaro, has reportedly imposed a ₦50 million levy on Yargoje and neighbouring communities in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State.

The development was highlighted on X by security analyst Bakatsine on Sunday. According to local residents, Babaro issued a stern warning on Saturday, demanding that the money be raised within a strict deadline or face severe consequences.

“Notorious armed bandit leader Mustapha Babaro has reportedly imposed a ₦50m levy on Yargoje and nearby communities in Kankara LGA, Katsina State. Residents say he warned that failure to meet the deadline would have repercussions,” Bakatsine wrote.

The analyst further questioned the effectiveness of peace talks, noting:

“If this can happen in an LGA that held two peace parleys with bandits in less than three months, what kind of truce are local authorities actually achieving, and how well does it protect communities?”

State authorities have yet to issue an official response to the latest threat.
