The Katsina State Government has confirmed the freedom of 62 kidnapped victims following a decisive airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on the camp of a notorious bandit leader, Muhammadu Fulani, in Jigawa Sawai, Danmusa Local Government Area.

According to Nasir Mu’azu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the victims escaped after the Saturday evening operation at about 5:10 p.m., which forced Fulani’s gang to abandon their stronghold.

Mu’azu disclosed that 12 of the rescued victims are currently receiving medical treatment at Matazu General Hospital, while 16 others are under the care of the Army Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kaiga Malamai.

“Troops are monitoring the area closely for additional rescue operations. The security situation remains calm, and efforts are ongoing to reunite the victims with their families once medical checks are completed,” the commissioner stated.

Interviews with some escapees revealed that the bandits fled in panic during the NAF bombardment, creating the opportunity for a mass breakout. The victims confirmed that 62 people managed to scatter in different directions during the confusion.

Majority of the hostages had been abducted on Monday, August 11, during a night raid on Sayaya village by Fulani’s gang, which has long terrorized parts of Matazu, Kankia, Dutsinma, and even extended attacks into Kano State.

In response to repeated attacks in Matazu and Bakori local government areas, the Katsina State Government has also stationed the Nigerian Air Force Quick Response Wing in the region to restore peace and strengthen security.
