Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, under the 3rd Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled a terrorist invasion in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, killing 19 armed bandits in a fierce encounter. Sadly, two gallant soldiers and one local vigilante lost their lives in the operation.

According to Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the operation was launched after troops received intelligence on the movement of terrorists around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse areas at about 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025.

He revealed that the soldiers, with support from other security agencies, swiftly moved in to engage the bandits, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire. “The intervention began when our troops responded to credible reports of bandit movements. The encounter led to the recovery of several motorcycles and two mobile phones belonging to the criminals,” Zubairu stated.

During the confrontation, 19 terrorists were neutralized, while others fled with gunshot wounds. However, two soldiers and one vigilante member paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

Captain Zubairu confirmed that further operations are ongoing to secure surrounding villages and protect residents from recurring cattle rustling and attacks.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the 3rd Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kano State in collaboration with other security agencies. He urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious movements to authorities.
