Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to upgrading judicial infrastructure in Abuja, ensuring that judges receive better housing, improved workspaces, and enhanced security.

Wike stated this during his goodwill message at the Special Court Session opening the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

According to him, the FCT Administration has already made new budgetary allocations to build additional residential quarters for High Court judges, aimed at solving long-standing accommodation challenges and guaranteeing decent living conditions for all judicial officers.

He emphasized that comfortable and safe housing allows judges to concentrate on justice delivery without being distracted by poor living conditions.

Wike further highlighted several steps already taken by the FCTA, including handing over the Certificate of Occupancy for land belonging to the Supreme Court and beginning full perimeter fencing of the court complex to curb encroachment and security risks.

He said these interventions restore confidence in the justice system and strengthen every arm of the judiciary.

The Minister also listed ongoing projects directed by President Tinubu. These include the construction of secured residences for Heads of Courts, a new Magistrate Court Complex in Jabi to reduce workload on existing facilities, and staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School.

Additional developments include the design and construction of the Court of Appeal Abuja Division Complex and new housing for justices of the National Industrial Court, Federal High Court (Abuja Division), and other major judicial institutions.

He noted that all these projects are part of broader efforts to build a resilient justice system.

Wike added that the FCTA is focused on completing these projects swiftly and will continue to invest in digitalizing court processes to speed up justice delivery and minimize manual operations.

He stressed that justice must remain uncompromised at all times, as it forms the foundation of democracy and public trust. He urged judges, lawyers, government agencies, and citizens to work together to strengthen the nation’s judiciary.

Wike expressed optimism that the 2025/2026 Legal Year will usher in greater progress, wisdom, and efficiency for the Court of Appeal and the judiciary at large.ke
