Jordan Henderson ‘says goodbye to Liverpool teammates

Jordan Henderson has reportedly said his goodbyes at Anfield ahead of a move to Al Ettifaq.

The Saudi Arabian club are managed by Steven Gerrard and look set to make the Liverpool captain their first marquee signing of the summer.

Henderson’s role at Liverpool has been slowly phasing out, with the England international starting many games on the bench last season, as the Reds slumped to a fifth-placed finish

Gerrard arrived at the club as manager at the start of June, ahead of the beginning of the domestic Saudi season in a months’ time.

After plenty of speculation in recent weeks, Sky Sports News now claims that the deal is set for completion and Henderson has said his farewells

It will bring an end to Henderson’s 12-year stay at Anfield, where has won seven major honours, captaining the side to Champions League and Premier League glory in particular.

The report states that a £13m deal is expected to be completed before the end of the week as the 33-year-old becomes yet another midfielder to depart the club this summer.

Henderson may not be the last to leave either, as Thiago Alcantara remains linked with a move away from Merseyside.

Fichajes claims that the Spaniard could return to the country that he represents internationally with both Real Sociedad and Sevilla showing interest.

Thiago is only under contract for another 12 months, so this could be the last window where Liverpool could receive a fee for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich man

It is now a decade since Thiago departed Spanish football to join the Bundesliga giants, but at 32, may now make a return, with La Real said to be the current favourites to land him.

Injuries have plagued much of Thiago’s Liverpool career, as he made just 18 league appearances last season, while also playing no part in their pre-season so far.

Henderson and Thiago could join Naby KeitaJames Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on a lengthy list of midfielders who have already left this summer.

Jurgen Klopp has found replacements in the meantime though, adding Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in the early weeks of the window.

One player whose departure could be on hold though is Fabinho‘s, with the Brazilian’s move to Al-Ittihad reportedly in jeopardy.

David Ornstein of The Athletic claims that talks are still ongoing with both sides hopeful of striking an agreement, but the 29-year-old will return to training on Wednesday if a breakthrough is not made before then.

The deal was reported to be in the region of £40m, but complications in the transfer process means that it has hit a stumbling block for now.
