Everton have completed the signing of Jack Grealish on a season-long loan from Manchester City, with the deal including a £50 million option to buy the England international next summer.
The 29-year-old winger becomes David Moyes’ sixth signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Carlos Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Grealish joins the Toffees seeking regular first-team football after a frustrating campaign under Pep Guardiola, in which he started just seven Premier League matches.
Why Grealish Chose Everton
The former Aston Villa captain revealed he was convinced to join Everton after a direct conversation with Moyes and an outpouring of support from fans on social media.
“I’m over the moon to have signed for Everton. This is a great club with great fans,” Grealish told evertontv. “As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place I wanted to go. The messages from supporters have been incredible, and I hope I can repay that faith.”
Grealish joined Man City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a British-record £100m fee, making 157 appearances and winning seven trophies, including the historic 2022/23 treble.
The Story Behind the No.18 Shirt
While famous for wearing the No.10 shirt, Grealish opted for Everton’s No.18 jersey in honour of two of his football idols — Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne — both of whom wore the same number for the club.
“There were other numbers available, but my two favourite English players ever are Rooney and Gascoigne,” Grealish explained. “When I saw No.18 was free, it was the only choice.”
Debut Date Revealed
Manager David Moyes says the club is getting Grealish at “a good time” and hopes to help him earn a recall to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Grealish could make his Everton debut in their Premier League opener against newly-promoted Leeds United at Elland Road next Monday, before a potential home debut against Brighton & Hove Albion at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium on August 24.
