The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dan Iwuanyanwu, has alleged that some influential politicians and wealthy businessmen from the Southeast are secretly working against the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Iwuanyanwu said certain powerful figures in the region are unsettled by the strong public affection Kanu enjoys among his people.
According to him, “There are top businessmen deeply involved in oil and other ventures, especially in Abuja, who are not in support of his release. The same applies to some Southeast politicians who fear that if Nnamdi Kanu returns, their political careers will be over — even without him saying a word.”
Iwuanyanwu emphasized that Kanu’s influence stems from what he described as “organic love” from the people, making him a powerful figure whose freedom could reshape the political landscape of the region.
