Israel has expressed readiness to support Nigeria in addressing violence against Christians, with plans centred on intelligence sharing and strategic cooperation, according to the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman.
Freeman disclosed this during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, where he spoke about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s commitment to helping Nigeria confront insecurity affecting Christian communities.
According to the ambassador, Israel’s involvement will be guided by the Nigerian government, with cooperation focused on areas where partnership can effectively strengthen national security.
“We will be led by the Nigerian government on how best to work together in tackling insecurity across the country,” Freeman said.
He explained that discussions around intelligence collaboration would remain confidential to preserve their effectiveness, noting that public disclosure could undermine security efforts.
Freeman clarified that Netanyahu’s comments were not limited to Nigeria alone but reflected broader concerns about the safety of Christians globally. He added that the Israeli prime minister had previously highlighted Israel as the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is increasing.
The ambassador reiterated Israel’s willingness to assist wherever possible, particularly through discreet intelligence cooperation aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and improving overall security.
