Israel Maintains Blockade and Escalates Attacks Amid Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis

Israel has sustained its eight-week blockade on food, medicine, and vital aid entering Gaza, all while intensifying aerial bombardments that continue to destroy homes and shelter tents, deepening what the United Nations has called the “worst humanitarian crisis” of the war.

In the early hours of Thursday, at least 13 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes, according to reports from Al Jazeera. Among the victims were three children, who were tragically killed in a tent near Nuseirat in central Gaza, as well as a woman and four children in a home in Gaza City.

“The Gaza Strip is witnessing an alarming military escalation, with the humanitarian crisis escalating by the hour,” said Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza. He reported that rescuers, many of whom have seen their equipment destroyed or damaged, are increasingly unable to reach survivors trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.

The Palestinian Authority’s communications center condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks, saying there was “no pause,” “no mercy,” and “no humanity” in the Israeli strikes. The statement included footage showing an Israeli tank moving through the remains of the Shaboura refugee camp in southern Gaza. “In Shaboura refugee camp, as in every corner of Gaza, the devastation is unrelenting,” the center declared.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens as Blockade Continues

Gaza’s humanitarian situation is further exacerbated by Israel’s continued blockade, which has been labeled as a “deliberate dismantling of Palestinian life” by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The UN agency reported that the Gaza Strip is now facing its worst humanitarian crisis in over 18 months, following the escalation of hostilities in October 2023.

The Gaza Ministry of Health has raised alarms about the catastrophic impact on women and children, with many facing malnutrition and a dire lack of essential supplies such as food, drinking water, and baby formula.

Israel’s ongoing refusal to allow aid into Gaza also contradicts a World Court ruling from May 2024, which ordered Israel to urgently facilitate aid into the region to prevent famine and starvation. Despite international calls for assistance, the blockade remains in place, worsening the already dire conditions in Gaza.

As the conflict drags on and humanitarian needs grow, the lack of mercy and continued attacks in Gaza underscore the deepening crisis faced by civilians caught in the crossfire.
