INEC Cannot Conduct Free, Fair Elections Under Tinubu’s Government – Buba Galadima

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot conduct free and fair elections under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Galadima accused the current government of prioritizing politics over governance, barely two years into its tenure.
According to him, INEC has lost the courage to call politicians to order despite increasing political activities ahead of schedule.
“When INEC was truly INEC, they used to caution politicians against early politicking. But what do we see today? Just two years into this administration, the ruling government has started heating up the polity,” Galadima said.
“INEC doesn’t even have the muscle or the guts to call them to order because those in government are the ones leading the charge. So how do you expect a free and fair election under such conditions?”
He further questioned INEC’s credibility, insisting that if the electoral body cannot stop politicians from “jumping the gun,” then it lacks the capacity to conduct credible elections in 2027.
“If they can’t say, ‘Stop, it’s time for governance, not politicking,’ how will they have the liver to conduct a free and fair election?” Galadima asked.
The NNPP leader hinted that opposition voices are deliberately holding back for now but would eventually challenge the ruling party when the time is right.
